Greenwood Farm Strawberry Hill Maternity Portrait Session
IPSWICH, MA MATERNITY FAMILY PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER
The days are shorter, the trees are bare, and a chill is in the air, but winter can still be a wonderful season for outdoor portrait sessions. Greenwood Farm in Ipswich, across from Strawberry Hill, proved to be a fantastic spot for this couple’s maternity session, despite the lower temperatures this time of year. Aside from a few fellow dog walkers, we enjoyed having the property all to ourselves this early morning — and private, quiet locations are always ideal for maternity sessions. We spent an hour exploring the footpath circling the rural property, while also venturing belly-high into the salt marshes and golden fields surrounding Greenwood Farm — a less likely option this would have been during a summer session when the undergrowth is too thick and the insects are on high alert. In the winter, nature here is sleepy and welcoming and provides a nurturing landscape that softly frames the expectant couple and compliments their gentle touch. Even their dog, Zeus, could have his own fun in the grass and return home tick-free!
With a little planning and effort, a family portrait, engagement, or maternity session is always possible during the winter. Incorporate layering and heavy-knit clothing for cozy New England on-camera moments, while warming up if necessary between shots with an extra coat. Choose footwear and a location that is accessible and walkable. Bring hot chocolate even. Here in the Northeast we have to make the most of all the months, so you if have questions or are curious about shooting outdoors this time of year, please do get in touch.
N + G, thank you for choosing to work with me — congratulations on your little girl!
